24 September – Rugby World Cup, Mangakino Rugby Festival – The Rugby World Cup 2011 officially began on the 9 September with New Zealand v Tonga. Our district hosted the Welsh, Irish and South African teams. Mangakino hosted our Mangakino Rugby Festival 24 September.

 

29 August – The Quality of Waikato River Lakes Meeting Environment Waikato made a presentation on the State of the Waikato River Lakes and their Catchment Areas covering the River located between the Hydro dams of Atiamuri and Waipapa. The public meeting was on Monday 29 August, from 10:00am-1:00pm, at the St Johns Hall in Mangakino. Topics included: State and Trend of Water Quality; Relative Contributions of Contaminants; Current Primary Sector Initiatives; Current Environment Waikato Work Programmes in the area.
